No other place in the California left me with such fond memories quite like the road trip down to Yosemite over the weekend. With its towering trees and rocky terrains, Yosemite gives people space to think and slow down. It’s a place where cell phones reception die upon entry to the National Park, prompting conversations and games among friends.
Lodging options for Yosemite range from tents to cottages. We opted for the tent cabin in Curry/ Half Dome Village, glamping never felt so good. Each tent was fitted with 2 singles, a queen bed and a heater to keep you from freezing in the night. Communal shower areas are located nearby and the passcodes on those doors prevent the bears from walking in on you. That was a joke by the way, although the park ranger did caution us about the bears. The dining area offers hearty meals at a decent price and if you’re dying to get contact with the outside world, the lounge area offers free wifi although it is severely slow.
-find friends to join you on this incredible journey
-stock up on food/snacks
-switch off your phone in the valley (haha cell phones reception die upon entering the national park)
-wear comfortable shoes to hike
-bring a torchlight (it’s pitch black at night with only the stars to guide you to who knows where)
-appreciate everything from the trees to the squirrels to the bears that raid your tent in search of snacks
-find puns that relate to the woods
-come back again
Vernal Falls is one of the most popular and shortest (or so we thought) trail in Yosemite, the trail leads to the base of the majestic waterfall where hikers can stop and observe. The last stretch of the trail can be exhausting as the steps get steeper and higher. Thankfully, the Emerald Pool awaits you after such an excruciating/short/easy hike, it’s where hikers go to rest and soak up the sun as well as their feet. We ended up spending the entire afternoon relaxing and enjoying the environment before heading back down.
